Bounced off the road this morning.

Still not entirely sure why. It's a corner on my normal commute, cycled round it 100s of times before. I wasn't pushing it, nor going particularly fast, the road was wet, but nothing unusal. Today however the wheels don't stay under me, and I go splat. Leaf mush? oil? just a unlucky lump? I didn't notice anything. Fortunetly the cars behind stopped so I could pick myself up and get out of the way. Someone even got out of their car to check I was OK - which I was: leaky elbow, bruised thigh, felt like a pillock - but at least the bike was OK!

One of those days I guess.

Had near same few days ago. Wet roads bike decided to go it's own way whilst trying it's best to throw me off. Just about caught it though. Squeaky bum time it was... of course the kids who were standing around watching gave me a nice round of applause..

Sounds like oil/diesel.Reminds me of an incident in 1981 when a taki skidded out of control near me in Barkingside.It was a bit eerie but I guess that was oil as well or perhaps diesel.I've never forgotten what happened that day.

Was a day for oil/diesel on the road. I came close to coming off on a left hander but managed to catch the bike & as I nonchalantly rode off got the applause of a ped who shouted something about a car hitting the kerb after skidding there.

I no longer swerve for animals, to the point that I ran over a pigeon in Hyde Park a couple of years ago.

I swerve for animals, firstly because it's instinctive and secondly because hitting one can take you down quite easily!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

... and swerving for one can take you down much more easily still. Better to slow down, exercise some control if there is any room, but no swerving at all.
