Had my first proper ride yesterday. Me and my mate went up to Windermere in the Lakes for a blast. Parked on Glebe Road about 8am and set off along Rayrigg Road, A592 to go around the lake.
I'd never ridden on these roads, and I was blown away. There are some nasty climbs, but usually not too long, and the rest is very rolling, so for every quick uphill you get some decent flats and downhills as well. We found this led to running a pretty quick pace, and we subsequently flew along. Until we hit Hawkshead Hill that is! Hawkshead Hill goes on, and on, and on, but the down hill payback was simply awesome. It really let me push the CAAD10 and stretch it's legs.
We ended up jumping on the ferry back across the lake due to time constraints

, but next time we'll go down to Newby Bridge and do the full loop.
The only downside? When I checked the bike over after getting home I noticed my back tyre was pretty soft! On closer inspection I've managed to cut the side wall!
I'm pretty sure it happened on one of the last right handers of the last big downhill on approach to the ferry, I went in too quick and started to drift over, but there was a shale car park on the bend, and cars had obviously dragged loose chippings onto the road. I thought I might go down to be honest, but I keep it together and thought I'd got away with it - alas not! Now to buy a new tyre - never mind, the ride itself, although pretty short at around 25 miles was absolutely fantastic, and we got away with the weather as well.
Can't wait to go back and do the full loop, even with Hawkshead Hill
