I agree with him! The stress of this time of year is awful, I remember dreading it when I was a kid because my parents would always row.

It is not a good time of year if you live in a fragmented family of have recently lost someone. This is the first Christmas without my mother .

However for those in otherwise stable happy relationships if they find Christmas so stressful what is to stop them keeping it low key? There is no law as I understand that states you have to be as extravagent as possible. I wonder how much of this is just competitiveness (i.e. must do Christmas bigger and better than anyone else).

Ours is low key and beautiful. But we're not in the UK. Think it is hard in england with constant pressure. I love ours it's so simple. just the 4 of us. It can be done.
