There are a couple of this exact bike model where I work. It looks like it has the same sticker on it that says something as stupid as 'Don't cycle at night'...What's that all about?!

Aren't a few of the cheapo bikes from Ebay and places like Cycle King equipped with such shifters? pretty sure I have seen them.

Yeah I think there was someone on here a few weeks ago posting pics of his new £299 bike, with the same set up. Think it was from Littlewoods, or some similar.
Didn't have the hert to say "can you send it back and go look at the Triban 3?"

Looks like someone's done a conversion from flat bar to drops on the cheap.
It's actually not a bad idea if you just want to see how you're going to get on with drops before you shell out for proper (expensive) shifters.

Looks ike they kept the original (31.8mm?) stem and just fitted a shim so that they could use smaller (25.4mm?) bars.

Or it could just be that the guy spends all of his time riding with his hands on top (no need to change position to change gear).

Revoshift on a road bike. And they can't even sort the internal brake cables.

i have a bike like that. I only paid £160 for it , brand new on Amazon about 15 months ago. It is a Vitesse Sprint. I must say the shifters work very well. I still have the bike but don't use it much now. I much prefer my Specialized Allez which is much lighter.

My first road bike was one of these from Amazon, and i didn't really mind it. In the end the bike started deterorating so i got rid and got a Specialized on finance (almost paid off :P). It's easy to get used to using gear wise. Perfectly fine for beginners.

Edit - Just seen Alex11's link. That's the one.

I have one of those!!

I rode about 3500 miles on it last year and it was not a bad bike. I have upgraded since but still have the Vitesse in the garage! The main issue I had with the revoshifts was the lack of space on the handlebars for lighting etc. The rest of the bike was cheap but stayed together so what more can you ask for at that price?
