On the cycle home from work yesterday (25 July) A silver BMW driver did the classic left hook on me when I was at 20mph at the end of a dual carriageway alongside a Shared-use path. As I was almost at a stop after he pulled into a driveway, I thought it would be a good Idea to have a polite chat with the driver and point out the potential danger. My polite effort was met with the line: "I pay to be on the farking road" as he walked towards me... I cycled away on the Shared-use path in fear of my safety.
I won't be offering advice again to any road users.

Looks scary and my heart would have been thumping. However, the way you handled it was not what I would describe as 'a polite chat', at least round here.

If a driver is driving so aggressively they are likely to respond aggressively, unfortunately.

Heads for cover ....

Charming. What a complete and utter twunt. You did the right thing by GTF out of there; you never know what these brain dead morons are capable of. Might be of interest to the local Police - even if there's not a lot they can do about him on this occasion, with an attitude like that they might be interested in keeping the incident on file for criminal intelligence (ironically) purposes.

What is it with some drivers, do they think they are the only one who pays car tax? I bet most of this forum users also drive, have a vehicle and pay tax etc.

I have a car and don't pay road tax ( or whatever it is called nowadays ) , so does that mean I shouldn't be on the road?
that is a clear case of driving without due care and attention - take it to the police - and if they do nothing take it to the chief constable. In fact I find it difficult to come to any other conclusion than it is dangerous driving, but I doubt the police will go with that link

Please do take it to the police though, the more people who complain about hideous driving like this the more likely that one day they will do something about it.
I have a number of incidents of careless driving that I'd report if they made it easier. Wiltshire police are supposed to have an online form for reporting things like this but they've had a notice up saying call 101 instead for ages. Calling 101 means sitting in a queue then getting fobbed off by an officer when you do get through.

I feel that more local cyclists would report incidents if it was easy and maybe something would get done. Just a simple form allowing us to say which reg number we're reporting, a brief description of what happened and tick boxes for whether there are photos or video and the police can keep a log of numbers and choose whether to contact us for more information, photos or video. I think I'll complain that this doesn't exist.

Our local constabulary, in partnership with Sussex safer roads, has an online ability to report anti social driving, which allows persistant bad driving to be identified - you might have similar in your area, I checked this on Googly, you might find something more local, or contact the local police for advice
https://www.thamesvalleyalert.co.uk..._any_anti-social_driving_in_rural_areas_.html

Whilst many will think this is pointless, the Operation Crackdown in Sussex has the ability to pass on to Police information where safety or serious incidents can be progressed to court.
