What is it with some drivers, do they think they are the only one who pays car tax? I bet most of this forum users also drive, have a vehicle and pay tax etc.
He hasn't paid however.

You never know what might happen if you report it. Sometimes the Police are thankful for an excuse to pay someone like that a visit. And in any event you should certainly report such careless driving especially with it on film.
In fact I find it difficult to come to any other conclusion than it is dangerous driving, but I doubt the police will go with that
Alas, it doesn't become dangerous driving until the CPS declare it as such. The police can't even record it (DD is one of the few motoring offences which is also a recordable crime) until the CPS have declared it DD, so the feds don't get a day in that one.

I don't think you did get it right. You forgot the bit where you put down your bike, remove your bike lock from the bike and ask the scrawny runt if he'd like to discuss "road tax" in more detail.

Couple of things which I bear in mind. One, it's VED, not road tax or car tax. It's a tax on the ownership of a car, not the use of the roads. It hasn't been road tax since 1937, and VED is not predicated to pay for roads. That comes out of general taxation, which you and the BMW driver pay equally. So you 'pay' for the roads as much as he does. Two, VED is rated on vehicle emissions these days, so if bikes did pay a 'road tax' it would be zero anyway, as it is a zero-emissions vehicle. OK, all that is a bit airy-fairy. One argument that I think might make sense to BMW Man is - I own two cars as well as this bicycle. I could be in one of them, on the road in front of you, making the congestion that is slowing you down, but I am not. You should be grateful to me! (Actually, nothing would make sense to a guy like that. He's either had a bad day or has a personality disorder. Best left alone. Karma will strike, sooner or later.)

I have a car and don't pay road tax ( or whatever it is called nowadays ) , so does that mean I shouldn't be on the road?

I had a "road tax" ranting colleague ...

I pointed out that with two cars, bth in a higher VED band that I paid more than twice his road tax, would he by his own argument now be getting out of MY way

Apparently it doesn't matter how much you pay as long as you pay
Cyclists don't pay road tax no matter what else they drive

Why don't you return later tonight and paint "I pay road tax" on the side of his car with paint stripper.

There's no way I'd like to be accused of inciting any kind of vandalism, but when I was at school a mate of mines dad had a carton of off milk poured in to the vents along the front of his windscreen. They never managed to get rid of the smell. Apropos of nothing you understand...

You say "VED is not predicated to pay for roads" - Wrong - Oh yes it is.

As of the budget this year it (sadly) is again. Expect more of the I Pay For The Roads cr@p as a result!

Still VED not road tax though.

Sorry. "VED has not been predicated to pay for roads for many years, although this may change in the near future." Better?

More of the 'I pay for the roads' comments depends on motorists being aware of the changes. Given how many think of VED as a road tax, despite it changing 78 years ago, I don't hold out much hope for that!
