My road bike is quite 'look at me' and not one I'm comfortable parking outside tesco etc, nor can it take mudguards and so on. I like the road bike position though.
I'm looking for something I can ride on days I'd rather not take the nice bike, mudguards, pannier rack for family rides etc but still relatively light/quick for winter club rides and pref drop handle bars (but would consider flat) - can I find a bike that does all this? Tyres, maybe wider than my current 25s for winter riding? or am I talking about more than one bike?
It doesn't need to be pretty, just functional, in fact the more inconspicuous the better, I want to happily throw a chain round it and leave it outside shops/pubs etc - not something I'd dream of doing to the nice one!
Open to secondhand in case anyone knows of anything (i'm a 5'4" lady but have long arms so mens bikes usually suit better!) Come to think of it I think I'd rather have an old Cannondale than a new carrera if you see what I mean. Currently trawling eBay but if you can think of anything please let me know. I'm not sure such a bike even exists or if what I'm thinking of is a sort of cross between a road bike, tourer, commuter and cyclocross bike. Also happy to buy a bike that doesn't exactly do it all as long as it can be made to (fit guards etc!)
