I could happily get off the ferry in Rotterdam, and NEVER set foot on this island again.

Unfortunately, for the moment I have to stay put, but the plan is there.

I have a similar idea.

When I graduate in 2011, I'm so outta here.

a hell of a lot of "there must be more to life than this" patter going on!

It's completely the opposite for me. I sometimes wish there was less to life than this. I was full on over the summer holidays and couldn't wait to get back to school for a rest ;)

Most of my associates have full and active lives and are happy with their lot apart form the statutary 'need a big pay rise' and 'management are 5hite' whinges.

On the whole though, I enjoy the battle to fit everything in to the weekly ration of 168 hours.

Maybe it's due to a big health scare, or maybe I've done my mid-life crisis, or maybe I've just succumbed to my lot, but at last I am becoming at peace with myself, my life, my family and my limitations... and it's starting to feel good, but sometimes you have to experience some shoot before you start to realise how good some things are.
I've always carried with me line of cod-wisdom from a surfing article I read over 30 odd years ago. It was an article about a guy surfing in some part of Oz where the waves were unspectacular, but nicely formed and consistent, but he longed for Hawaii or S. Africa's big swells, and then he said wisely "if you can't get what you want from surfing in your own back yard, you'll not get it in anybody elses" and I truly believe that life is much the same. Happiness and contentment comes from within and how you look out on the world outside. Keep your face to the sun and you'll never see the shadows. Have a nice evening.

Earth to Arch, he's trying to send you signals of interest... get your skates on and ask him out for a drink!!! :welcome::biggrin:

Well, as I say, he's nice enough, but I was hoping to put off dating pensioners for at least 10 years or so....

Very Zen FF, but I fully agree with you!

When I was tramping (living in my truck) in my last job, I had a phone conversation with my other half one night. I wasn't enjoying myself much at the time (4am starts, 13 - 15 hour days, only home at weekends and so forth), but I was taking home over £500 a week. Anyway, she said that we had plenty of money but a "shoot lifestyle", which was true. So I handed my notice in at the end of that week (with no job lined up) and signed on with a driving agency. It was a bit of a gamble, but now I'm bringing home perhaps £320 a week, working around 8 hours an evening and I get home every night. I've never made a better decision.

I don't go to meetings. Meetings are for boring egotists who want to show off or for management by committee. I work for a company with experienced directors and heads of department; we don't hold formal meeting, we just talk to each other then got on with the job.

It sounds daft the way you put it ! But I agree with you.
