The BBC reports that the ghost bike placed at a junction where Louise Wright was killed by a lorry is to be removed.

The white painted bicycle was anonymously attached to a lamppost in Nottingham city centre where cyclist Louise Wright was killed in July.

The 29-year-old died following a rush hour collision with a lorry on Lower Parliament Street.

The city council said it had consulted with Ms Wright's family to remove the bike and create a permanent memorial.

Flowers and the bike have remained at the scene since the crash.

However the city council said it now risks becoming an obstruction to pedestrians and distracting drivers.

It does appear to be a potential hazard to pedestrians, which is fair enough. The bit that bothered me was the council's claim that it would distract drivers. I'd say it was no more a distraction than a billboard for the latest smartphone, maybe it's the awkward reminder that cyclists are easily killed by motor vehicles that doesn't sit well with them.

Council nonsense either some spiteful little toad has complained or the council are doing their usual over zealous application of rules or probably both. We had someone over here complain about the church clock chiming after 11 and the council decided it broke noise rules. This is after 150 years of it chiming and all because one saddo complained. However after the locals mobilised pitchforks and burning torches ready the council changed their mind.

Half a dozen stragically placed white bikes in London would do a world of good, even if it only saves one life

Ok,.suppose you were killed in BHS by an escalator or lift failure. Would you then erect a shrine there?
No, but providers of retail services already make strenuous efforts to separate their customers from dangers which may lurk within their premises eg motorised delivery vehicles.
Providers of road transport links have a more casual approach to customer safety.

Good on Notts CC for enforcing a policy that most councils already have in place but shy away from implementing..

Well I'd really like to see some Banksy style white bike art in places of lorry disrepute.

It would be more meaningful as any ad. Motorbikers get their own signs on the popular death traps so why not ones for lorry drivers at dangerous roundabouts and junctions ?

Someone dropped dead outside my house and I never got a shrine . Mind you I pumped his heart for about 20 mins and as he was taken away they said he was dead . He turned up a few months later waving at the windows so I am told . I'm glad I didn't see him as I would have poo'd myself
