Same here...

I've never watched Neighbours.

That is because you are not British.

She'll always be Mrs Jessup to me. Which means she was playing an meddling ("medalling") old biddy from around the age of 50. Two bad she stopped acting, she could have been an old biddy for 40 years
I was put off by ridiculous names like Kylie. I predicted it would never catch on.
The character's name was much more ridiculous "Charlene". That didn't catch on.

Yeah, but nobody watched it there.

Yes! People in the UK in '99 did not understand the phrase "I don't watch Neighbours". I remember seeing an Australian stand up in London, and telling some colleagues "he was in Neighbours, but I didn't watch it" and the response was "You know, he played Mrs Mangels' son*". It's like the concept of never watching it did not seem possible.

What was impossible was not being aware of "Scott & Charlene", even if you never watched it. And later, "Des & Daphne".

*I think.

To bring it around to a cycling topic - Mark Little (Mrs Mangel's son) played Rupert Guinness the Journalist in 'The Program' the film about Lance Armstrong.

Will nobody think of Len Mangel... notwithstanding the fact we never saw him on screen?

Nel... Len... see what they did, there?
