I managed to overcome my phobia of making soup today (no, only joking, just have never tried it!!)

Stewed up the remains of yesterdays turkey, stock, an onion, a carrot, and some barley to thicken it. Let it simmer gently for 3 hours and then tasted it....absolutely lovely:biggrin::biggrin:. Went down well with some crusty bread!!

Will be doing that again me thinks:thumbsup::laugh:

Soup can be really quick too, we usually have it at least once a week. Tomorrow we will do some kind of stocky gammon soup I think. Experiment and find out what works for you!!!

I have a cauldron of some sort of veggie soup on the go most days. Low-calorie, low-fat, filling, tasty, healthy. I even used the excess veg from Christmas lunch to make a delicious, thick veggie soup for Christmas Day evening and boxing day. It was yummy!

You can do sprout soup too .. this is the only way I'll eat sprouts!

Method: Put left-over sprouts in the blender and blend until smooth. Put finely diced onions in a hot pan with some oil and caramelise them. Add blended sprouts and chopped up left-over meat. Add water as required. Make sure there's some bacon in there too for flavour. Simmer for 30 mins, then gently add cream for richness.

Serve!

Soup is pretty adventurous - well done !

Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble! I can imagine you all toiling over a hot cauldron of soup!
Love home made soup but always seem to use the same herbs etc. Can you suggest typical seasonings for home made soup so it's not so hit and miss with me?
