My gym seems to have found the middle ground - some people let it all hang out, others wrestle with the towel, trying not to let it slip.
I generally get my undies on in the shower cubicle and then at least my nethers aren't on display! Although I did once drop my clean knickers onto the wet shower floor, most uncomfortable!

If i'm honest i don't particularly enjoy strolling around naked in a changing room full of blokes. I've not been to the gym since i got free membership, i stopped getting changed there because i was getting some very intense looks by two particular gentlemen... They seems to be there the majority of the time i was, and it made me feel pretty uncomfortable! So i ended up running there and back to avoid the situation!
It's totally fine at the uni swimming pool though, no problems ;)

No issues about being naked. Not gone so far as to visit a naturist beach or anything, but not hiding away at shower time at the gym/5-a-side either.

No point in being ashamed of what you have/haven't got. Life's too short.

*ahem*

Anyway, I am not surprised at women trying to hide their modesty from each other, even in an all-woman changing room! My girlfriend thinks her body is awful (clearly, I think it is far from awful!).

In my experience men are perfectly happy to get nude, have a chat in the nude, belch, fart, piss in the nude with the cubicle door open, etc, etc. Generally speaking, we don't give a shoot ;)

Interesting. That makes sense. I was surprised by the OP. Never thought about it, but certainly in the gym I go to no-one seems to give a shoot. But women are a lot more body-conscious/competitive aren't they? I've heard it said that all that dressing up and make-up and paying £70 for a haircut is all about other women rather than men. It's all very baffling. And I have to say, as dad to two daughters, a bit depressing.

I remember at the end of a Polaris weekend passing the showers at the event centre, a school or sports pavilion, and seeing a line of cyclists waiting naked for a shower. They were all skinny, hairy, with muddy legs and prominent muscles. With the generally sordid condition of the showers, the red brick and white tiles, I had a sudden shocking feeling that I was looking at the inmates of Belsen.

I think that women do have more inhibitions to men about the naked form. When I used to go to the gym I found that I could walk around the men's changing room naked quite freely, and no one batted an eye.

Was a completely different story when I tried that in the women's changing room however...

My experience in women's changing rooms is that other people really stare at you if you bare too much flesh! I think it might be because the general level of paranoia about body image amongst women makes them so obsessive about it that the constantly have to check other people's 'assets' in order to make themselves feel better/worse or whatever.

I just go in there, get changed in a way that I'm not stared at, and go and do my workout.
