Yes it needs a clamp-down. Cars kill perhaps two thousand people a year in the UK, and that's with registration, numberplates, "road tax" (sic) and compulsory driving tests.

If we did the same for bikes we might reduce the one pedestrian killed in a bad year down to the zero killed in more normal years.

It wil never happen, so go back to sleep

UKIP (assuming they've not changed transport policy since 2013) are actually ahead of that curve;

10.6 UKIP would consult on the desirability of minimum third party liability insurance cover for cyclists - a simple annual flat rate registration ‘Cycledisc’, stuck to the bicycle frame, to cover damage to cars and others, which are currently unprotected. The Cycledisc should also carry clear identification details, which will help counter bicycle theft, and deter dangerous cyclist behaviour. We support provision of cycle parking at reasonable charges.

Presumably the same would apply to a horse and cart or anything else that currently doesn't have to be road registered?
Same as mobility scooters on the pavement/road, Horse drawn funeral hearses etc. It will not happen.Relax everyone.

Number plates on motor vehicles have stopped all of them from breaking the law, haven't they? When have you ever read in the Daily Mail about cars jumping red lights, crashing into things or failing to stop after collisions?

Nice to know Sussex police have so many spare officers available to enforce this!
Good point - get the impression the DM imagines one could just ring up plod to report the RLJ's reg and they'd be banged to rights.

so when are motorbikes going to be required to have number plates on the front so that the average speed cameras will actually work with them? (not saying they don't obey the law but I know many who take no notice of the average speed cameras because they know they are not being caught at the moment - family members included!)

and how on earth on we meant to 'wear' them? :wacko: :banghead:
It was ill thought out when they first came out with average cameras, but most of them have been turned round to enable us motorcyclists to be tracked too.

Just another badly planned road system 'upgrade'. Just like no one thought to check that the LED speed limit signs on the smart motorways met road signage legislation.
Surely being within the regulations should've been the top priority of the design specification for a new sign system.
How do these muppets get these jobs!!
