Nutted rear axle to QR?

Evenings!
I've just bought a turbo trainer, and it needs a QR rear wheel.
I have an unloved and cheap MTB with slick tyres I plan on using on it.
Just realised the rear wheel is nutted, not QR. It's a cheap Shimano freehub, 7 speed.
Is it as easy as 'remove old axle and fit new one', or is it a bit more involved? And are hollow axles pretty interchangeable, or hub-specific?
Cheers.

Yes, and 99.9% (well nearly) probable to be M10 x 1mm fine thread (if it is a Shimano hub rather than just a Brand X hub with freehub for Shimano cassette). Do you have the hub model code (FH-mxxx) to make it 100%?

Since it is 7 speed the dropout distance could be something other than 135mm, best check. Whatever it is you need an axle that is 11mm longer.

Some turbos require an attachment to mount 26" wheels. Just saying.

Are you sure spacers / longer nuts won't do?

Might be a 10mm axle or a 9.5mm - need to get right one - if it is too long you can just cut it down to fit

Cheers.
I've remembered I have a rear wheel somewhere that is QR but has a knacked rim, so I'm going to try swapsies with the axles.
@RAFN - the turbo is adjustable for 700C and 26". It claims it needs QR, and comes with a special skewer. It's one of these from a well-known auction site.
