OAP'S - reduced rates

Lots of club memberships , subscriptions, garden centres,cafes etc offer reduced rates to OAP's / people drawing their state pension.

Now, morally, if you are still working part or full time with an income, would you still class youself as an OAP and take advantage of the offers.

I don't generally see these offers for some reason. However I do have my bus pass (never used it) and I get the Winter Fuel Allowance. I no longer get any salary or part time work paid - only pension. But I'm not an OAP - how very dare you

Quite right. I got my first over 50's letter last week. Talk about rubbing it in. I was only 50 last month.

Oh great. I rarely get mail now as everything is on-line, but I know MIL still get's loads. Might fuel a big bonfire !

Similarly I know people who use student discount whilst being in full time employment and taking night courses.
It’s just a benefit, so use it.

While my in-laws have since retired, there was a point while they were still working that when on holiday in the States, they noticed that many of their "old-age discounts" over there started at 55 or 60, for which they were eligible. They had no hesitation in signing up if it meant getting some money off! If the rules say you can, why shouldn't you?
