Taking a short-cut down a lane I'd not noticed before, which should have saved 3 or 4 miles along the usual route, recommended by my old Tom-Tom [when I first got it], I started to think it was having me on when I approached a farm yard where a man was washing his car... I wound the window down and before I said a word he said, "Tom Tom?"....

Bridge bashing.. That's usually a sacking offence in Transport Companies (especially 3 days into a job!)

Hmm.... Driver says:
He said: “I was following the sat nav and did not see the signs.
“I would definitely say that there need to be clearer signs leading up to the bridge.
Council says:
There are ordinary warning signs on the approach, and there are flashing vehicle-activated warning signs.
“Then there is the bridge itself, which apart from looking extremely low is painted yellow, and has a band of reflective chevrons attached.
“There is also a sign on the side showing its height, accompanied by the words ‘Low Bridge’ in huge letters. We’re struggling to think of anything else we can realistically do.
Specsavers possibly?

A Sat Nav is just like having a person sitting next to you reading a map and giving directions. You are the driver, you may listen and take advice, but at the end of the day you control the vehicle.

Are you married?

This bridge at Ely under a railway, gets struck by high vehicles about once a month- sometimes much more often, causing long delays.

I used to laugh at the idiots, but sadly it has led to plans for a bypass to avoid the bridge which will destroy some priceless water meadows, from which breathtaking views of Ely Cathedral will be lost forever. The price we pay in this world for f***wits!

Ha ha..... reminds me of the time I followed my satnav into some woods. The route must have been a road in years gone by.
Luckily I was only in my little nissan micra, so no harm done - I fully admit to being a complete tit on that occasion!

There is a story told of a driver hired to take the daughter of a Chelsea director and some of her friends to a home game. So he bungs Stamford Bridge into his Sat Nav.

And ends up halfway between York and Pocklington...
