OK here's the scene, driving along narrow country lane I come to a one lane bridge, the is a guy on a bike in front so I let him go over first then, when the road widens out overtake him, so far so good, no big deal however when I'm past he sticks his arm in the air. So was he 1 - recognising the fact I let him go first 2 - having a go because I overtook him at all or 3 - just stretching his arm ? Gave as much room as I could [as much as I'd need and I'm no hero]. As I said in another post a raised arm in a rear view mirror can mean a lot of things. No real answer to it just maybe something to remember, if someone does you a favour or whatever maybe a thumbs up or similar might be easier to spot.

As long as you gave him plenty of room, I would be inclined to assume he was thanking you for your patience and courtesy.

That's what I thought, just made me think how easy would be to get it wrong and add another chapter to the "cyclists V motorists" story. Hey ho, just a thought.
