Hey there. I'm off on my adventure this Friday, so in case some of you like to read a blog and see some pics of the adventure then you can follow me here:

http://webm8.com/france2016/france-blog-2016.html

A group of us are cycling the length of France over 3weeks, starting near Caen and finishing in Cassis before flying home. Hopefully we will get good weather. We get to see Le Tour on the first 3stages, and then traverse some of their route further down the country too, missing the race then by a matter of days. This is a leisurely van assisted tour a bit like the TransAm I did four years ago.

I'm impressed - Heart rate measurement every day - ^_^

ah yes, the Garmin does it all although it had a bit of a spaz every now and again which is a shame. The cadence, heart rate and speed would go off the scale which throws the results

amazing trip though, mostly quiet D back roads, too much to eat though lol. Interesting route which took in so much of the country. Weather was hit and miss, high 30s some days and on the last day, it was down to 14 with monsoon rains with thunder & lightning. crazy. So now I'm catching up watching Le Tour I recorded

hell of a blog man there some cracking bikes in that line up. did u guy camp or hotel. stunning photos.

Really, thanks! Looking back at it now it seems I moaned every day about something or other lol. I'm just watching all of Le Tour which I recorded on Eurosport, (bloody thing corrupted stages 7-11). So it is amazing to see the places we went through and the pro teams did too, same roads etc. A real buzz, what with the road markings and all that.

I only added a selection of pics during the ride and at the moment I am going through a much larger selection, coloring them, rotating etc. Then there is the videos to edit, still not finished off my TransAm ones from 4yrs ago!

We did a mixture, it was all pre booked and planned for ages. I started the project about two years ago and booked most of the places as soon as bookings were benign taken, sometimes a year in advance haha. So, the first week was camping and then the 2nd and 3rd was a mixture, leaning heavier on hotels, sometimes because that was the only thing available. We did cancel at the last minute one camp ground due to the high temperatures and the day been 80miles long with lots of climbing. (part of it on Stage 13 time trial but in reverse)

So we got to see the Tour a few times. We had planned to see it on Stage1, but after doing all the D-Day stuff along the coast, by the time we got to camp, and an extra 10miles odd each way to go to see it, we bailed. Stage 2, after a bit of a rejig of the route while cycling, we headed south on the route they headed north on. So we got to see them properly then. It was on a flat so they were going at speed. Just missed being on TV due to adverts and cutting back and forth between the break and the peloton. Stage3, we got to Granville as they were getting ready to depart, so managed to see loads of best cyclists in the world there. And the bikes, wow! I was really lucky with the route I planned as it coincided with their route a heck of a lot, just through luck.

Weather was mixed, some really hot day, some ok days and some cold days too, plus a huge monsoon on the last day in to Cassis, very dangerous, temps down to 14degrees in July! A bit like here lol. Glad you liked the blog and thanks for the message. Will be more pics going up on it hopefuly this weekend

haha well they are amazing bags, I can't fault them, well, not much any way. Always a champion of them since I used it in 2012. Is it one you use on your travels too? Only drawback I have had is that they go saggy at either end which hangs over the "support bar". Very water proof though.

Hmmm the others on the tour were fine I believe. As we were van supported, all that was in our bags was wallet, puncture repair kit, small first aid packet, spare batteries and cards for the gopro and sarnies mainly. A few other light odds and sods, so nothing too heavy. On tourist stops we did sometimes take a lock and a paid of trainers. I'm not sure what the extra weight was to the bike, probably 3weeeks worth of pastries in the end lol

Is it a trip you would do?

Ah the TA, yes that is something altogether different. Do they have blogs to read? I enjoy reading how other people got on. It is very hard, more mentally then physically at times.

On both i used a Easycamp brand. First one I dumped in the US as I swore I'd never camp again! so for this trip, i got the nearest to what I had last time. Perfect, cheap, light and very quick to put up. Two poles, I left everything attached when taking it down each morning, all rolled up and fitted back in the bag. Highly recommend if only for the ease of putting it up
