Keeping off main rds if poss...

I'll mainly be going to Castlehead, I know there's a track 2mins from there and goes to (or near Barrhead) but not sure if goes near Clarkston. When in the car I usually go up Neilston rd, through Barrhead and over the dams rd to the top of Mearns and down to Clarkston, but have no idea of cycle tracks

I've looked at some routes on the net but can't make out where exactly they go.....if anyone knows there area I'd really appreciate advice. Having said this, they've just built ( or finishing) a walking/track at the side of the rd going from the Glenifer hotel to near enough the Cross stobs, like I say, any help or advice is appreciated

I could recommend a good back road route as this is my area, there are some good tracks around the Barrhead reservoir - google Dams to Darnley. It would probably be impossible to miss main roads (avoid the A726 on a bike if possible). But you can do some quieter back roads. Think Clarkson, head towards Waterfoot, Waterfoot Road over to Mearns, Mearns Road, cut over to Ayr Road A77 cycle path, turn right at the Avenue towards Barrhead, round Dams Aurs road, through Barrhead, cut over Blackbyres road and down towards Paisley. Most of this is quiet-ish or on tracks.

Thanks will do.....don't want to go to Waterfoot though, I was hoping to go just from Clarkston to Paisley, but like you say, you just can't avoid the main rds and will need to go on them at some point
