Just get a cheap t6 bike light from eBay for less than £30 and you will have more fun. Really not happy the local path has received lighting...

There are several cycle paths with embedded solar lighting on them. They don't light the way to see by but I guess they show where the edge of the path is. One light is at the end of a bridge and is red - I often think someone has dropped their rear (weak) cycle light, and then remember what it is. I recommend your own lights far more.

That's what the wee red light I often see in the park is: keep thinking: why is that dog so still?

They installed them (solar lights) a couple of years ago on my commute out of Cambridge between the airport and Stow cum Quy. I guess they're OK if you are desperate for yet more lighting. Seems like as the years go by, the unlit sections of my commute diminishes bit by bit, and with it the chances to see the stars properly. But, the townies demand lights, and who am I to deny them!

Sorry, I should have said this is a shared path.
I guess mobility scooters have built in lights, but not many peds remember to carry a torch.

I wouldn't be bothered about lighting on a rural off road path, but in town I think lighting is good* - as sheddy says, peds don't often carry torches, and it's nice to be able to see a fair way ahead, if only to be warned of drunks and potentially worrying loiterers.

*That is, dedicated path lighting, not just the ambient glow of nearby streetlights. York's riverside path for example, you could probably see your way ok without additional lights just from the general glow and your own bike lights, but it would be a shadowy place, and probably scary for many.
