Comfy armchair to one person & a plank to the next
This year there was a larger than usual turn out, and the silence was immaculately observed. Partly owing to a car fire closing the road about half a mile from the war memorial!
Yep, motorists shoot all over both silences here, driving thier noisy vehicles past our group of cyclists stopped at 11am and driving diagonally across the square during the silence before the 7pm beacon lighting. To be fair on the second one, I don't know why there were no signs on the approach to the square asking them to wait.

Who's that with you on the left making the medal faux pas?
"The medals awarded to a deceased Service / ex-Service person may be worn on the right breast by a near relative" https://support.britishlegion.org.u...ers-etiquette---dress-code,-medals-and-badges

Those still serving may be subject to other regs varying by service but RBL advice seems valid for all others.

That's correct as far as the advice above goes. They should never be worn in that manner on a uniform, only on civilian clothes.

We'll ignore that they're miniatures and should be on dress uniform or formal dinner wear.

Good idea. 1RGJ here, and a regimental crest on the breast pocket would look rather spiffing. I'm heading into civilisation on Wednesday, will have to divert to M and S and check it out.

RGJ , i remember being posted for a short time to them , they were undergoing Internal Security training , we took two Saracens with drivers to Lydd for them to use in crowd control etc, some idiot let the tyres down on the first night , maybe he thought we would have to use a footpump to re inflate them , so we popped the engine decks , got the air lead on the compressor , 10 mins later they were all pumped up snd running !
It was good to work with the Infantry though ,

Retired MN captain.the dress medals were his late father's his sister has the full size ones in a frame.Incorrect in reality but a Mark of respect however all are in the wrong place but it doesn't matter.Great bloke in every way.

Nah, fair play to him. Just cos I'm a pedant doesn't mean I don't think it's cool ;)

@ozboz Oh yeah, we used to have great fun playing with vehicles... ;) Did you spend some time without our Nepalese friends? There were some on our NBC course. Some of our less enlightened colleagues were taking the pith out of them in the bar in town, but they sat there quietly with placid looks on their faces. The next morning everyone awoke with a red felt tip pen mark across their throats - the Major went seriously ape and had a few choice words to say about the "****** eyed little ear-chopping b*******!"

Was going to be in Guzz for a diving weekend where a small would have been placed on the site of one of the wrecks. As it was the weather screwed that up so I went to local memorial and watched my boy and his sea scout troop on parade. Proud dad.
