First bad one today - hit by a bus as I overtook a vehicle in front.

Driver's first words were "What are you doing? You hit the back of my bus!"

(I didn't, I got clipped by the front)

Followed by "Why didn't you look over your shoulder?"

(pretty sure I did, as I saw the front of the bus too near to my elbow).

Followed by "Why weren't you on the cycle track?"

(at 21-23 mph? (shared use track with peds, frequently covered in glass))

I think he was trying to beat me around the bus I was overtaking, personally - it's all on CCTV though, he says.

On the plus side, we were more or less opposite the MRI, so getting checked out was easy enough, and I've more or less escaped with road rash, bruising and a sore back. Bike will be going to bike A&E at lunchtime

Bad luck John. Hope you are feeling okay?

Bad luck, sorry about that, that's horrible. "Hi honey - I got hit by a bus this morning, I'll be home early". Ouch.

As Reg says, make sure it's reported, and get the hospital admission number too, you may need it to trace records later.

****ing bus driver's comments - like it's your fault he hit you.

Nasty!

First priority is to make sure you are ok. it can take a day or two for injuries to manifest. If you feel anything getting worse get to the GP or A&E.

Obviously, you will need to get any CCTV footage you can get (street and bus). Were there any witnesses?

Are you a member of the CTC? If not join, and then contact their legal services. They are the experts in this area.

The driver should not have been concerned with the details of the accident, he should have been finding out if you were ok. Not a good attitude!

Sounds nasty. Glad you are OKish.
Can't seem to visualise the scenario...you overtake a vehicle in front of you and a bus hits you. Anyways, not important. Hope you get well. You're not at work are you?!

Whoa - sounds like you got off lightly... being hit by a bus could simply have been Game Over!!

Glad to hear you're not too bad - driver sounds like a complete cock... yes, sorry about hitting the back of your bus, I tend to do that often on my bike... muppet!:thumbsdown:!

Thanks all - going to the police station at lunchtime. I'm in CTC so will give them a bell after.

Maz - situation was slow moving traffic with a bus ahead and behind - bus ahead stopped, I moved around it, and the bus behind clipped me once we'd passed the stationary bus (I think - bit hazy).

I'm hoping the only thing up with the bike is torn bar tape and a shifter rotated inwards (s'what it looks like to me) but I'm going to ask the chaps at the LBS to have a look to be certain. My back, arm and leg are stiff (and the road rash hurts like a sod) but other than that, seems ok.

Drivers comments were a bit off, but he didn't come across as a particularly nasty bloke (odd saying that about someone who puts you in A&E, but there you go). We exchanged details, he offered to get me an ambulance (I could walk, and the hospital was across the street, so no need).

In an odd coincidence, the vehicle involved is the same one that nearly squashed me back in October (different driver) - I made a complaint back then about a close pass by a traffic island.

So the company will have a record of you reporting their drivers' bad driving already... nice piece of evidence to say that you had previously tried to raise awareness of the problem...

Sorry to hear that John - glad you're not too badly hurt.

Take it easy, dose up on the anti-inflammatories and watch your road-rash doesn't get badly infected like mine did.

Hope the bike's not too badly hurt either ;)
