Hope the bike's not too badly hurt either ;)
Got back from the LBS - RH shifter had been rotated inwards and loosened, and my stem was slightly off centre - they took a good look over wheels and frame too, and that was all they could find. They fixed it up, and agreed that I'd probably saved the bike by cleverly using myself as a crumple zone

Ach well, we heal up but a bike can't. Good thinking that, sacrificing yourself to protect your lovely SCR2 ! ;)

Seriously though, glad you're OK. Rest up and look after yourself.

Ouch - just read this - Oxford Road by chance ? - Europe's busiest bus route (official) - glad the bike is OK - assume you've got to ride home then ?

Going to be a CTC solicitor job to sort this one - sounds tricky. The cycle lane there is no good for anything over a brisk walking pace - shared use for those that don't know the area, full of students with IPODS on !

Good man, thats what I would've done too ;)

Best wishes, hope you feel better soon.

Thanks all.

Rode home tonight (pouring rain) and didn't feel too bad tbh. Missus cleaned up the road rash, which hurt like a bugger - the elbow is worse than the knee and seems to still have some road in it. Overall I don't feel too bad - back's a bit stiff, as if the thigh on the side I came down on. Wrist was a bit sore (thank god for the different hand options on drops though).

Every close pass felt *VERY* close on the way back, although my "move over" gesture to the white skoda passing me too close by the traffic islands on Manchester Road elicited a single finger from the driver[1], so things are reassuringly back to normal :o)

[1] He ended up sat waiting at the same set of lights as me, so the dodgy overtake gained him *tons* of time. ;)

After a wee while with no really close passes, I had loads on the way home tonight. Once again, they were the ones who skimmed by my elbow, yet by the time they got a couple of hundred yards up the road they were sitting towards the centre line, leaving about three bike-widths of space free. I don't get that - other than they're deliberately buzzing cyclists for a cheap thrill.

You're a brave man John - riding again whilst still suffering from your war wounds. I salute you !

How you feeling today ?
Like I've been hit by a bus ;)

Thigh is stiff, rash is a bit sore (elbow is the worst, but the missus did a good job of redressing it last night). My knee and wrist feel bruised (no sign of that on the surface of the skin though). Took it nice and easy coming in, and chickened out & used the cyclepath instead of the road where I was hit. I think I'm going to forget about my averages on the commute (at least for a while) and concentrate on recovering and staying out of the way of the traffic!
