I have just been offed!

By my own idiot self ...

And there weren't even any cars around!

I was riding one-handed down a hill, trying to zip my jacket up got my finger caught in the zip, applied the front brake, lost the front end, landed on my hip, banged my head, scraped my hands, elbow, knee and hip to buggery, took a chunk out of the saddle and I think I've bruised my hip bone (probably). It hurts but I can move it in all directions and I cycled home ok, so I reckon I've just bruised the bone (my bones are very strong - never broken one, despite my own efforts to do so over the years!).

Ow, ow, ow, pain, ow ... note to self: Do not try to fiddle with things while riding downhill one-handed.

And that jacket is now a write-off! So much for trying to do the zip up ...

Sorry. Glad you're ok. If it's any consolation, I once tried out some caged pedals on my brand new bike whilst wearing chunky Sketchers. I couldn't get my feet out and dropped like a sack of spuds right in front of my house and a couple of teenage lads. Pride hurt more than the split knee and ankle.

A mate of mine used to make a habit of riding no-handed while putting on or taking off jackets. He'd casually weave the bike round potholes while he did it. Impressive bike handling skills, but it made me cringe. I kept thinking of what happened to Andrei Kivilev. (He died of head injuries after falling from his bike. I think he was fiddling around in his jersey's back pocket at the time so his arms weren't free to protect his head when he fell.)

Everyone knows, the only way safe way to do a zip up whilst riding, is to ride no-handed.

I struggle to do that, so usually stop and faff and then ride off after.
