Took forks out to fit 'new' s/h ones to discover they were from a smaller frame!!!. Problem is i've put old forks back in & some thing aint quite right.
They feel stiff when turning & dare i say it 'unsafe'. I have re-assembled bearings sleeves etc in wrong order i guess. even checked on other bike (same model) & done likewise but still not right. Bikes a Raliegh mirage . Done me . But I ai'nt giving in to the b*******s.:welcome:
Anyone shed any light on this?

Are the ball bearings in cages? If so, it's possible they're upside down.

Alternatively you have simply overtightened the top screw.Undo the stem, and then unscrew the top by 1/4 turns until the stiffness disappears and there is no play when the brakes are applied. Then re-tighten the stem.
