When I was about 8 my mum and dad bought me a 'new' bike, I imagined a big racing bike with drops and proper gears 'n everything... I got a shopping bike very similar to that but in an attractive metallic brown colour, complete with shopping rackbag... how they revelled in my rapturous joy on first seeing it..

I had a similar experience. I wanted a Raleigh Chopper, my mates had them. They were absolutely the coolest bikes on earth. Before we even knew things could be 'cool'.

I must have been misheard as I actually got a Raleigh Shopper.
