I had a similar experience. I wanted a Raleigh Chopper, my mates had them. They were absolutely the coolest bikes on earth. Before we even knew things could be 'cool'.

I must have been misheard as I actually got a Raleigh Shopper.

Damn, me too, & it was my mams, re-painted by my stepdad.

What I really wanted was a Raleigh Team Pro in Reynolds 753.

I took the baskets, mudguards, reflectors & bell off & saved around 75 kg in weight.

I was the only lad in our year with a Raleigh Shopper SL.

But, in reality, it does look a great bike for, well, going to the shops on. Low desirability to scrotes, can be left out in the rain etc. - perfect. Everyone should own a comically heavy, old, unsuitable bike for those trips down to the shops.
