Just stumbled across his obit, great songwriter, cut some great songs himself, Back Room Blood from 1996 is a top notch piece of work.

He was mentioned in that Everly Brothers wotsit on thingy the other day/week/month. Until then I didn't know he was behind so many of the hits of the time. Up on the roof was done by a few people and still goes through my head from time to time.

I should add the Telegraph does some excellent obits. I have their Book of Obituaries, well one of them, there might be more, which you think would be quite depressing but it's actually quite uplifting and humbling.
