Oops.

Washed my son's mobile in the washer - he'd left it in his pants, rushing about I grabbed my bike kit, and what was in the laundry basket, threw it in the washer (what was that klunk ?) and off I went.

Left it in the airing cupboard for now in bits. Might pop it in the conservatory. Nothing coming on yet, so hoping it was flat before it went in the wash as it hadn't been charged.

Will give it a charge tonight - haven't told him yet !

Hmm, good luck with that one, we've recovered one from being dropped in a mug of tea, but a full wash cycle!!!!

My old Motorola Razr phone had three trips in the washing machine (all 40*C heavily soiled cotton cycles with a prewash) and several dunkings in the river. Each time I managed to dry it out by removing the battery and sim, putting the phone into a jam jar full of white rice and leaving it for 24 hours.

If it's a dirt cheap phone then you've probably killed it but the more expensive phones tend to survive better when it comes to surviving interactions with water.

A friend of mine* was doing a poo, and 'surfing' on his phone... left it 'nestling' in his keks while 'clearing up', pulled up keks, launching phone into bog

*it wasn't me, honest, though I've dropped two phones the bath, and got them working again... 24-48 hrs in the airing cupboard

The important bit to remember when this happens is to switch off if not already, remove battery and put somewhere to dry for longer than you think.

I can testify to dropping it in a bowl full of rice as a great way to dry out electronics*, but if it was wet and switched on, then chances are it will not revive.

*I dropped my Desire in pint of Abbot Ale, immediately switched it off and removed the battery. 48hrs in a bowl of rice and it was working again happily.

The cardboard mobiles are best wiped with a cloth. Only the plastic ones are OK to wash

I washed my son's nice new Sony Ericsson. Dried it out for a few days but the camera refused to work. Put it through as a warranty claim but it came back with a high-res photo of the circuit board attached to the envelope with WATER DAMAGE in big letters across it. Still got quite a bit for it from one of those phone recyclers.

Battery out, leave it to dry.

my son's ipod touch survived a wash (can't take the battery out of those, but we just left it switched off for a week or so).

sea water acts as a very good electrolyte ( cos it is ) it will screw your phone regardless of its off or on status.

white rice, couscous, any dried goods like that should save the phone, although i did kill a Nokia by doing exactly the same as the OP
