When I made an exception to my strict rule and took a cup of coffee into the car to drink it (while stationary) then spilled it on my crotch and brand new car seat (exchanging short-term pain for long-term annoyance and happy derision from my family) I was able to get the stain out by hiring a carpet shampoo thingy and using the hand tool, which soaks the stain then sucks up the liquid.
