Yesterday I went out for a ride. On the way out I had an average speed of 27 mph. Thought I'd lost 25 years and gone back to my thirties.

For the whole ride the average was 11.5 mph. I got back knackered. Thought I'd moved on to my eighties instead.

Likewise, I decided to go for a quick pootle last night along the Monsal Trail now all the rail tunnels are opened up

I started at Wyedale and headed ino Bakewell - slight downhill all the way and a wicked tailwind - it was fun going into the tunnels and having wind assistance funnelled directly in my direction of travel, I nearly ran out of gears

Of course. slight uphill into a headwind all the way back made it slower going and dropped me down to 13mph avs for the whole ride

Get a recumbent, then you'll always have tailwind. Wind up yer tail anyway.

Definite tailwind today.
Stopped off at the doctor's surgery to give them a letter. And still managed to average 20 mile/h on the way in. Topped out at 31 mile/h on the almost flat.
Going home could be tough, though.

It's well worth battling with headwinds for many months (on both journeys!) just to have one journey with a tailwind!

Plus you can hear the carbon resonating too... beautiful!

I had two homeard rides of the year in the last two days, firm tailwind but more importantly an on time departure and mixing with more cyclists, some of whom were damn quick, both days tearing along far quicker than I thought possible, defo over 30 (speedo resting)

today I burnt off the competition and overtook a scooter going up the Bow flyover, granted it was a weedy 50cc thing ridden by a girl but still

yeterday I went up the Bow flyover so fast I though the tyres were going to catch fire, to my amazement I heard the sound of another bile slowly catching me and starting to pass, I sped up some more and we shard honours down the other side, as we slowed for approaching lights a third rider freewheeled gently level with a classic 'just out for a bimble expression'

a great deal of it made me smile hugely, the casual 'I always ride this fast'
