Since my Langster arrived last autumn my mileage split has been: Langster <1100 miles - Surly Cross Check >50 miles. I've been bowled over by just how much fun riding fixed is.

So anyway, I've bought a 15 tooth fixed cog and a lockring and now I just need someone to convince me that it makes sense for this ageing hipster to risk his rapha three-quater-lengths (and his neck) by fitting them.........

You don't need a person to convince you, the bike will do that all on it's own.

i had problems with my ankles so went ss for a while thinking it was the fixie and crazy ass spinning down hill.

i went for a forum ride with colinj and i was ss, jesus christ it was hard work, all the negatives of fixed with no benefit whatsoever.

all that spinning completely trashed me and i blew 5 miles from home, i was also bloody freezing for the whole ride, i've never been cold on the fixie.

the next ride was with penninie-paul, it was hillier but being on the fixie was sooooo much better. i won't be doing ss on road again.

when I switched to s/s on my commute my weight started creeping up,
your only riding 75/80% of the time at a rough guess

the wind chill on s/s is a pain too at this time of year

Is it me or does riding s/s after your used to fixed feel like riding in treacle,
especially cresting hills............. freewheel effect perhaps

OK. I've done it. Fixed cog on and.... well, I'm not sure whether it's ready to go or not! The teeth of the cog don't seem to be a great fit for the chain - it certainly doesn't seem to be sitting right and the teeth aren't fully engaging with the chain. What have I done wrong?! Help!

Looks like I got my sizes mixed up - just ordered a 1/8th chain.

Do you have a 3/32 chain and 1/8 cogs???

The wide links on your chain will fit the teeth on the cog
but the narrow links wont engage properly
