OK who is up, and why.

Its 7:50 now, I've been up since 6:30, the Mrs and eldest son have gone on a shopping trip. I drove them to the station about 6:45, I'm going to have my porridge and head out on a bike ride.

I would normally have been up as Speicher has seen recently, but I'm afraid that yesterday, I was so knackered that I went to bed at about 7 pm and I slept like a baby (except for going to the bog at about 3 ish) until just before 8am, and it felt GOOOODDD!!

Seriously I can't believe that after years of being up at stupid o'clock, I then go and sleep through the thread for it!

For the past two weeks, I have been wide awake at 2am, and sometimes talking chatting on here. Last night, I went to bed "early" at 1.30am.

Was out the door by 6.45am ..... Nice 31 miles. Bike cleaned,chain oiled. Happy man!

Should have gone for a ride. It was great outside this morning, fresh breeze, crescent moon hanging in the sky...no traffic...

Not here!! I mean, ofcourse it's beautiful (still is at 6, when I take the dogs out for walkies) but I find it very scary been all alone in the middle of nowhere! "The remains of the day" I guess..

I love it - an empty desolate moonlit lane at 4:30 am is perfect for me. A few years ago I did a solo ride of many thousands of miles through the Australian bush and my most cherished memories are of being alone in the wide open scrub literally a hundreds miles (often more) from anybody else.

I love the idea, however "Brave" is not my middle name.. I don't mind traveling alone (I always have done, as not many people have any interest in visiting the places I want to go) and I'm quite a loner, but I just don't feel safe here at night. Having said that, I much prefer to be out at 4 in the morning, rather than midnight! Plus (you can't beat that argument) I'm a girl..

I don't mind traveling alone (I always have done, as not many people have any interest in visiting the places I want to go) and I'm quite a loner, but I just don't feel safe here at night. Okay, you got me there.

For that matter, I don't always care for cycling through parts of the town centre and along certain sections of the seafront here early in the morning, especially after long hot summer nights on the weekends when drunks and yobs are still out, looking for trouble - and I am a guy. I have been very aggressively chased on more than one occasion. The countryside is another matter...

I know and I envy you so much for that!!
It used to be my job as well (or similar to put it better) but that was so long ago.. A lifetime it seems! Yet I miss every single minute of it!

I used to live in a very "active" city (born and raised), but it never felt hostile! I remember leaving the keys of my appartment on the outside of the door in case my neighbours wanted to pop in for a coffee. Different culture I suppose.. Different times as well!

This town can get pretty rough.

You would never leave your keys outside your door here!

I know I am lucky to do what I do, but there are times when having forty acres and a mule looks pretty good. Sounds like you had a pretty lively career too (in addition to being a superhero).

Yes, but for how long? Especially for rootless people like myself..My bucket list is still half full with travel destinations.. Having said that, what stops you from living in the country? It doesn't affect your job, does it?

I am kind of in the country - five minutes on my bike and I am in the lanes if I want to be. It's the other direction into town that can be problematic in the early mornings on weekends. As long as I have access to broadband and an airport, I am fine. Can live anywhere. My bucket list of travel destinations is shrinking - but there is still a fair few places I am keen to see. It is the getting there that is wearisome...
