old bike v new bike

Hi folks
I am a newby here so bare with me. I am currently riding a trek 3900 about 12 years old . I commute on the bike and train, including many steps up from underground - so was thinking of a new hybrid maybe the specialized sirrus sport for about 500 smackers.
Basic question .. would you swap old fer new? .. the auld machine is nice but heavy.. would a new hybrid specialized or other brand ride as well and be noticeably lighter?

What "rides well" is a subjective thing dude but by all accounts the sirrus is a good bike.


In my view smooth tyres make road riding much more comfy even with thinner tyres

cheers for the reply Cyclist 33.. here is the essence of my dilemma.. stick with the auld trek with much thinner tyres and put up with the weight up the never working escalator.. or jump to a newer model with less weight.. to quote my ex...

The Sirrus is unlikely to disappoint, but if the old bike feels good and suits you...

Nowt wrong with having 2 bikes, but it is the start of the slippery slope.

I'm getting there!

So far, Road, Mountain, Foldie - planning on buying a new Road bike imminently - just haven't pressed "BUY" now

I had a go on a Sirrus while shopping for my current commuter eighteen months ago. Although I didn't end up going for it, I was very impressed with the ride, it's a nice bike. A friend has one, and also got on very well with it. So don't think you can go too far wrong with one of those.

If you've got the space, keep the old bike as a spare - can be useful to have e.g. if you get a flat and can't fix it before the next commute.
