Hello all i have biked for many years but just bought a racer and seems there is a lot of new
things to learn these days, so can i ask you a few questions, i live in Essex there is a bike shop in Basildon and Chelmsford "cycles uk" but neither seem to have much of an assortment of cycling clothing can some one suggest a shop that has a good range of cycling clothing in or near Essex.

Also can anyone recommend a good weekly monthly magazine that i can get to read up on present day bikes and biking, and another thing i just heard is about road positioning i got a small leaflet from one of the above shops and they recommend you rode further out from the kerb than what
it seems many use to do way back, something about a metre from the kerb they said, can someone
fill me in about the best position to ride on roads, i live in rural Essex so not that much traffic.

I have a Trek 1.2 Pilot racer anyone know where i can find a road test or can tell me something about this particular racing model, i do realise racers can cost thousands these days which was a
bit of a shock to me.

I have and ride a couple of old racers from way back but i do like to have a ride on these as well
as the Trek.

Thanks.

welcome aboard cant help re shops and the Essex area .

i always try and ride about 3ft from kerb mainly to avoid all the debris etc etc

@rebelpeter what old racers do you have ?

Hi, and welcome!

I don't know any magazine titles and those I've read have not really been about the sort of riding or bicycle that interest me.

Last one I saw was while waiting in A&E after a cycling accident.... Oops!

Things have changed a little in terms of road position lately, but you might get a good bit of info from sites like his one.

Enjoy your riding, especially on the older machines!

I would like to but my knowledge on pcs is less than nil....
easiest place is to create an album on here if you already have pics on your pc , although they quite often need to be sized to fit !!

When it comes to buying clothing I'm definitely at the cheap end of the scale - some good for the money items can be picked up from LiDL or ALDI cycling specials (there's an ALDI one next Thursday), or from the nearby Decathlon (there's one in Thurrock I believe - a bit closer to London than you probably want to go to. After that, I've tended to pick stuff up on the web - I've found DHB's stuff from Wiggle pretty good for the money.

There's also a Cycles UK shop very near to me - I agree, there's not much choice for clothing.

Another point about riding out of the gutter is that you're closer to the driver's line of sight. This stops them regarding you as nothing more than roadside street furniture and makes them have to change line a little to overtake. You're then more like traffic.

I didn't say... I was there with another rider that day. I was fine, I just drove them in as they'd done a ligament in an endo.

I'm told ?BikeRadar (did I get that name right?) is good for technical stuff and advice.
