Lovely story.

I was in Gerry Shield's bike shop a couple of years ago (he's 86 now), and he mentioned how he'd rode over to Sheffield (from Manchester) the previous weekend, But he'd had to go over the Woodhead 'cos the snake's a bit too steep..........

Wonder if it's one of those old guys that I've seen a couple of times in my area, all kitted up. Noticed when he stopped at the lights how limber and agile he was compared to peope half his age trudging across the road.

Oldest chap I've seen recently was when I got off the ferry in Caen - looked about 70 - 80s, full kit and on a lovely Colnago.

That's my ambition for old age - to be one of those wizened CTC types seemingly going at a glacial pace, yet covering a fair old distance.
