On the video you come round the corner about 0:26, and the renault is already 'nosing out' at 0:28 the offside indicator is visible (might have been before - couldn't tell)

It looks like he was then committed, but couldn't complete the move due to oncoming traffic.

+1 as other's (and you) have said do not undertake, you are leaving yourself open to being side swiped. You were maybe thinking, 'thanks for pulling out on me', but who knows what he was thinking, he seemed to be blocking you???

You don't need this forum to tell you how to ride, just be safe, and remember a***holes like him have a 1 ton metal jacket around them, you don't.

Mmm. His pull out probably wasn't the best, but as I am sure you know undertaking on the left is not a good idea. It is possible that this driver wanted to stop you doing what could be construed as a dangerous manouver.

If there is one thing I've learned when posting videos, it's that your cycling needs to be as squeeky clean as possible, otherwise you don't get much sympathy.

Even if it's not, you can learn from your videos to improve your cycling, be that from other people's criticism or just watching them over and seeing why things went wrong.

The guy was a dickhead, but the camera was making me out to be closer than I actually was!

On the road bike, the camera is mounted on the bars, and its mounted on the helmet I use for commuting. Tis a bit heavy for that lid, but people now see it and have noticed alot of drivers giving me more room!

I've watched this a couple of times and (please take this as not personal in any way) I really don't think the driver did much wrong. Yes he could have aborted his pull out, and he may have done, had you been a car, but had I been driving a car towards him, I would not have been surprised had he pulled out in that situation. It certainly happens, and I would have been slightly miffed, but no more.

I certainly understand that the camera can sometimes make things look closer (or further away). However, the very fact that he moves to the left means that you were close enough for him to think that he needed to block a move, by you, down the inside. Thus it is very likely that you were closer than the distance that it would have been safe to stop in, i.e. too close (we are probably all guilty of this from time to time).

I still think his move to the left could have been justifed, i.e. that you overtaking on the left would have been dangerous (you agree that this would be a dangerous manouver, don't you?) so he was moving over to block it. He would also have the knowledge that he was turning left just up ahead and so he might not have wanted a cyclist coming down the inside.

Now it still could be the case that the driver was an idiot and was blocking you out of spite, but my scenario is also possible. I find these days that I go through all the possible scenarios for each video before I publish it (though I often miss don't think of them all), as it is possible (shock horror) that sometimes I am wrong (and this has happened before!).

So Gaz, I hope this reply doesn't annoy you in any way, I'm just playing devils advocate here. What do you think?

You're probably right, or the guy was a knob head lacking in all spacial awareness.

But I was 2m or so off his back bumper and would not, under any circumstances go for an undertake, unless in stationary traffic, at slow speed with NO side roads on the left up ahead. Just aint worth it.

If I was in my van, I would have been checking my mirrors constantly and would never swerve to the left that aggressively.

But your points have been noted, as have everyone's. We all like to think that we are safe and responsible cyclists/car drivers etc. But we can always learn a thing or two,,,,,,,,

It looks to me like he's pulling back in to his side of the road after passing the parked vehicles rather than trying to block you.

Having said that, I'd have been annoyed too but more for having to slow down!
