wicked when cars were cars

And, on a similar tangent

Did anyone see Philip Glenister, with his new series 'For The Love Of Cars' on Sunday evening???
The first episode was all about the Escort Mexico

Four more episodes to come;
Austin Mini
MG-TC
Triumph Stag
Land Rover (which, at the time that the model featured was in production, that's all it was called - not even the 'Series 1')

My first ever "job" was cleaning up cars when they cams from the supplier and getting them ready for the customer.

It was a Simca dealer and one of the regulars used to do Rally is a Simca 1000

As Simca are no longer with us I have googled a Simca 1000 Rally car:

I enjoy watching a bit of rally and have been to see the Wales rally GB a few times because it's on my doorstep. It seems now though that there are so few manufacturers willing to back a team, and that if you are a very rich individual you can buy yourself a drive. If it wasn't for Ford and Citroen the sport would probably have died off at the top level.

In 1986/7 i was lucky enough to stay with a family in Kericho (Kenya) and they were marshals on the Safari Rally .... The Ford Escorts were still being used by private entrys, and the big boys were now on Lancia stratos and the lancia Integrale Group B versions. It was also the 2nd year for the Peugeot 205!!!!
Will try and dig out the pictures and scan them on to here.

Did the same job at a Saab dealer and one of our customers had a 96 Monte Carlo Sport 850. 2 stroke with 3 carbs 3 sets of points 3 coils and autolube sounded very like the Simca ( 2 stroke also? )
