Would like to get hands on an old small 16" MTB frame for my son to use as a commuter for School. Apparently, his nice Carrera is too good (according to the wife) so permission for a clunker to be assembled is OK.

Steel is ideal, even if gas pipe !

May be able to help out, however it'll need some work. If your interested I'll have a proper look and let you know what's good and what's not.

Hi it doesn't need to be much good - i.e. battered. Needs to take 26" wheels. So long as it's straight, and not rusted through. The plan is to leave it scruffy or give it a light re-finishing, but nothing too flash, but I will fit good working brakes/drive etc. I have some old Deore wheels which I plan fitting slicks to it. Think we'll also pop some guards and a rack on it.

Would appreciate it if it's going spare.

It was given to me, and I was going to make good for my youngest, however in the end he's got a new bike so it's going spare. Have far too many bikes to store (who on here doesn't) so I'm happy that it'll get a new lease of life.
I'm almost certain it has 26" wheels. I'll check tonight and take some snaps.

Oh thanks. My son has a brand new Carerra Vengeance, but it's going to be way too good for School. The 'boss' has insisted I sort out a school bike for him (she is still mad about me buying this decent bike). His old MTB is only 20". I've got plenty of 'bits' should anything be needed. Happy to pay for it and postage.

How much are you wanting to spend?

If the budget will allow, for £55 you could get a new Handsome Dog frame from All Terrain Cycles I got one a while back to make into a cheap canal path / fire road fully rigid hardtail. - Running it SS at the moment. Can't fault it for the price. It'll take V and discs and will take mudguards.

Looks good, but it would be too good. Don't want the bike attracting attention, which his current one does....

The other option is a new Decathlon Rockrider - for £99- might work out cheapest ? Already have slicks and possibly still have my old but battered full 26" guards.

Been told by a friend that there is a guy 'Mr Bike' who buys and sells secondhand bikes from his house in the Village. Why did I not know about this ? She's apparently 'traded in' her kids bikes as they have grown. Never paid more than £20. Oh and even my dad is aware of him. Doh.

Off for a nosey to see if I can find him.
