Olympic Gold Medallist's bike stolen - Manchester

A bicycle belonging to an Olympic gold medalist has been stolen during a burglary.
Thieves raided the home in the West Didsbury area between 7.30pm on 23 August 2012 and 11pm on 26 August 2012.

An unknown weapon was used to smash through the patio doors and the home, which was unoccupied at the time, was ransacked.

The thieves stole the keys to a blue Volkswagen Golf which they drove off in and also stole a bicycle belonging to Olympic Gold medalist Philip Hindes, who won his medal during the 2012 London Olympics.

The bike is described as being a Pinarello Paris which is red, white and blue and has a 'Sky' sticker and Mr Hindes' name on. The bike is used in training and was not the bike which Mr Hindes rode when he won his Olympic medal.

The car was later found burnt out by police.

Mr Hindes' Gold medal was not stolen during the burglary.

Police are now appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

Detective Constable Rob Southern, of West Didsbury CID, said: "The reason we have publicised this theft is so that we can catch the people responsible and return the bike to its rightful owner.

"I would therefore ask anyone who is offered a bike matching this description and the image we have released to call police immediately. It might be the thieves try and offload the bike onto a sports memorabilia collector so I would urge anyone who is offered the chance to buy such a bike to call police immediately as you could be vital to helping get this bike back.

"I would also ask anyone who has information about the burglary itself, or who might have been involved, to come forward.

"The stolen car was found burnt out on Princess Parkway so again if you saw anything then we need to hear from you."

Anyone with information is asked to call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.

...so many feckin scumbags out there it's depressing!

Quite a few serious cyclists have Pinarellos. My thought is that they'd sell it on gumtree in like 6 months if they were smart. But other than that, the person might even keep it. He's probably get pulled over, though. A red Pinarello is hard to miss. Poor guy. I'm glad his Gold medal wasn't stolen.
