Reading the BBC report it appears that the French lad won the first two rounds but did nothing in the third - however one of the judges gave him the third too, despite him barely throwing a punch!

I watched it on tv but listen to Steve Bunce on 5live, he wasnt that annoyed with the result. Joe was on the front foot, threw more punches and did more work, but the french guy covered up and only threw a few punches but hit with them, so his success rate was better.
Joe would have been up on a professional score card, but this is amatuer boxing were clear shots count more than general work rate.

After several attempts to record events which kept jumping channels, I gave up and watched them on catch-up instead. The trouble is, the Beeb insist on giving away the result before you watch it. In the case of the men's MTB there was a huge bloody picture of the winner!
