My mum liked him, and before you say anything stephec, no im not nearly as old as he was and he was a mean bridge player

I used to work with a champion Bridge player who knew Omar Sharif very well. Said that he was a wonderful man.

RIP. Another great actor gone.

Alas,I also thought of him as having already died.For some reason, I tend to associate him in my mind with Peter Ustinov.Same era I suppose,and something similar in the sophisticated,urbane delivery and the grasp of subjects far beyond the world of theatre.
 
I always have two minds about this

He was a superb actor, a true "celebrity" without all the traits, self publicity and tantrums of the modern ones

Was he " forgotten" or allowed to live his last years in dignity?


I think the latter and that is important


It is much better to remember the contribution that he made than have had a media circus about his illness

Another sad loss. He always came across as a gentleman in the true sense of the word when being interviewed. There were no tantrums in public or lurid stories in the gutter press about him.
