Car was in for asevice and I was 8 miles from home with 2 hours to kill (I now, shoulda taken my roadie along).

After a nice long Starbucks Latte and cookie, I wandered bored over to Helfrauds (Newcastle SIlverlink.)
Being stupid and not listening to advice here, I asked the bod there what size QR seat stem clamp I needed to replace my bolt type one.
"Same as your set stem diameter" he replied quick as a flash. Wow, he must really know his stuff. Just to make sure I asked,"The post thing the set bolts onto rather than the frame that the stem slots into?", "Yup" he said, so off I toddled with my new shiny QR, off with the old, and........didn't fn fit Aaaaaaargh.
The stem is 28.6 and the downtube is 34.5 with an insert to take he 28.6 stem (that's Giant for you!).

Lord bless their little brains, they sort of nearly got it right.....NOT

As long as I breathe, I attack.
Same for any shop, if in doubt take the item in question to show them or the whole bike.
With so many "standards " even the the LBS can get it wrong says the guy who took the old BB into a LBS and they still got it wrong.....

C'mon Loadz - the NEXT sale.
It's the leftover cra*p that no one wants and nothin worse than a 50 yr old trying to look like some skinny 20 yr old is there???
Just look at any bike meet out there ;)

Edit: anyway, I was more taken with the Bentleys over the road than the Harleys
