I have just found a Youtube video file called "Descent from Auris to Alpe d'Heuz" (stet).

Sorry, I couldn't get the link to work on this post, but it is possibly the greatest cycling video anywhere on the interweb nettything. Watch it all if you dare.

If you are squeamish about heights or anyone in your entire family tree has ever suffered from vertigo, do not look!

I have spent years seeking out the most dramatic mountain roads in Western Europe and driving them. This one looks more like something from that TV series, "The World's Most Dangerous Roads", and you would swear it is in the Himalayas or the Andes.

I was researching a few mountain passes in the French Alps for next year's holiday with the bike, and I couldn't believe that there was anywhere from where you could descend to Alpe d'Huez. Looks simply stunning.

It's not cycling related, just very scary.

No. Nice, but way too tame. You need to enter the exact Youtube video name in bold in the original post,, i.e. "Descent from Auris to Alpe d'Heuz" (with Huez spelled wrongly). I've never seen a vertical drop like it, and the concrete crash barriers are way too low to stop a cyclist from going over. I would hate to meet anyone coming the other way. When they stopped to lean over the edge for a photo, I almost had palpitations. The scariest road I've ever seen ...... and I've driven through roadworks on the Grimsel Pass with my wheel right on the edge; have driven the Furka Pass after dark in low cloud, and have gone up to Hitler's "Eagle's Nest" at Berchtesgaden in a bus driven by a madman. They were all pretty invigorating. This is something else entirely.
