There's a junction like that up the road from where I work. So long as it's done with care and attention, I'm sure it's perfectly legal, and yes I would. Unfortunately on the half-dozen or so times I've cycled up that way recently I've not been there at quite the right time to do that though.

Morally I don't think there's anything wrong either - unless you rejoin the road just in front of a car causing it to slow down or something like that - but if the lights were red that shouldn't be the case anyway.

No doubt motorists might think "why doesn't he ride on the path all the way along"? You and I know that if we did that and the timing was different then it could be difficult finding a gap in the traffic to exit the shared-use path on to the road. That's the main reason I rarely use the shared-use path I'm thinking of here anyway - other than that it's not too bad a path.

Is there any other reason that the kerb has been dropped there or do you think that was the reason they are lowered?

I wouldn't do it, I'd stop at the lights, having chosen to ride on the road I'll encounter the same stops and starts as everyone else using the road just in the hope of drivers attitudes slowly changing from the "you do as you like don't you"

There's a junction on my ride home with a cyclepath that bypasses a traffic light - if you ride in the green painted cycle lane before the junction, you're guided automatically off the road, and then back on again just after. I think it is designed to avoid a bottleneck at the junction, which is a single lane, with double lanes before and after.

I use it - but in that case to not use it would mean actively moving out of the cyclelane into traffic, so it's easier to just bypass the light, whether it's red or green.

If it's legal, do it. 'They' are always telling us to get on the cyclepath, so take advantage!
