How much of the cassette can you access with the big chain ring (compact or double)?

Is it all but the biggest sproket? Or the 2nd too?

I'm looking at the new 105 or Ultegra.

Nothing to stop you using the whole rear cassette. On mine though I try and limit myself to the smallest two thirds on the big ring and the largest two thirds on the small ring so missing out 4 or so as the chain starts to look too crossed beyond that in my opinion.

OK. On my 10spd 105 I can run the second big cog with big ring no prob. Hoping its the same with 11spd.

Nothing to stop you doing big-big as I said, provided of course the chain is of the correct length. I don't as it puts excessive wear on drivetrain components due to the chain being crossed to its maximum.

I will us big and big on my 5700 105 without issue.

Hoping it will be the same when I eventually go 11 speed
Hmm maybe my chain was a bit short then. Won't run without ticking. Even though limit screws and tension is right.
