I'm alive!
Well I gaffer taped the booties ( they are old and the zip was bolloxed), and left around 0630, the weather was backing off and whilst still doubly dark (please note @mr Paul) was a pleasant ride down to Wallingford. From there it got a bit more iffy, narrow roads that are fine on a sunny Sunday morning were gravel and leaf strewn, slippy enough on the steeper ascents to spin up the rear and extreme caution needed on the downhills. The route that's 'ridewithgps' plotted through Reading was pretty but painfully slow. But once out and on the way to Camberly I ignored the gps and made good time at last. Spotted a charity coffee morning in Frimley for a bacon Sarnie, tea and cake and then onwards to Fensham ponds. The GPS route led me through an RSPB reserve forest made of sand .... There was no obvious workaround so the mighty Holdsworth took to the dirt ..,. I had to push her up some ginormous sand hills.
At last I arrived chez Annabel's, dinged the bell and immediately heard the pop of a champagne cork. As the door open a glass if fizz was thrust into my hand and the ride was done. 60 miles at a paltry 11 mph. Very little rain, very warm and a strong and constant headwind made for hard fought miles .... I had to pedal downhill to keep moving!
On the wine now, recovery never felt this comatose ....,

Well, I was not going to, er, look a gift overshoe in the zip!

I'll see how I get on with them.

If you remember this day @ColinJ i was wearing the same over shoes and the zip went, it was my complaint direct to Endura that brought this pair in the post.

It was a very very wet day until the half way stop at Jodrell Bank.

Puzzle game procrastinator!
I always love the way people dress for weather

Here is a prime example, some are warm and dry, others wear full winter gear and there is always the one in a pair of shorts and a gilet
We got hit by a biblical downpour on that ride to the visitor centre cafe at Jodrell Bank and the wind and rain were really cold. The very petite dr_pink and another female rider (sorry, I have forgotten her name) were extremely distressed when we got there and took ages to thaw and start to dry out.

I was still fat in those days and was wearing kit way too small for me which was cutting the blood supply off to my legs. A combination of that and the cold created agonising pain in my right leg on the ride back to Stockport. It was like being stabbed in the leg with a large, blunt knife. I nearly fell off my bike in front of a van at some traffic lights due to the pain, and my involuntary screams were scaring pedestrians as well as myself!

By the mighty power of forum riding, it was still a good day out, despite the difficulties.
