I guess you can't get much more hardcore in touring terms, of cycling around the world. I wonder how he feels now, if wants to get back on the road or not. I think you'd feel pretty empty if you went back to a 9-5 office job after doing that. Anyone going to do the trip?

Yep saw that but Im more interested in his bike and equipment than his ability to have endless time to travel.
What bike/ frame / tyres ? no front panniers ?..no rohloff ?..two water bottles ? .....was he supported, what tent did he have ? what did he cook on ? It all looks pretty lightweight from the photos given but would love to read a proper blog rather than the Daily fail.

He did well but and as exciting as it sounds, he is but one of many cyclists of all ages including lots of older peeps who are strung out along the round the world route, who the come quietly home and get on with life. if it wasn't for Bureaucracy in the Asian countries, it would be quite a boring adventure.

This was his first attempt at cycle touring, that is impressive, but what does he do for an encore. Mind you he is a hardened explorer, this guy has summited Everest as well.
I too would like to know what gear he took with him. I will track him down and ask him if he is doing a book.

Re adjusting to life amoungst the millions who can never understand yet feel qualified to judge here in the uk may be a bigger challenge than the tour itself. This place can feel like home but also like a cage, depending on if you are away, or stuck here.

He's a man of my own heart, kept the kit to the minimum, all to often when I have been touring in Asia and Africa a few years back I have come across peeps carrying so much unnecessary kit. But then like me he is a mountain man, so you get to understand all about kit and unnecessary weight when you have to carry it on your back. If he went through the area on the borders of Vietnam and China he would not be able to avoid hills, some of which drag on up hill for 20 miles or more, and either gravel or mud. I Asia I tended to allow £16 a day, which allows for good days and bad days. Depending on what visas you need then that to need to be planned for. and can add up to quite a few sum depending on your route and how many countries you need to traverse.
