Now that has to bee a really classy way to get into your future mother-in-law's good books! Ten out of ten for NT there.
btw what colour is the Queen Vic's kitchen?
I can't remember, I don't watch Eastenders much any more!
It's funny with my Mum. Whenever we visit, there's some little thing that needs doing, and if NT sees a little job that needs doing, he wants to do it, but she's terribly concerned that he'll think she's always got jobs for him to do so she's always terribly apologetic, and will only ask after a great deal of "Now, please, don't feel you have to, I can probably manage without it, I hate to bother you..." beforehand. Of course, NT doesn't mind in the slightest, especially when it's something that saves her attempting a ladder (she gets dizzy), or if he gets to do a bit of problem solving.
This last Christmas, we resorted to secrecy when we spotted a dodgy light switch and connection, which involved a trip out to get parts on Boxing Day, and then shutting ourselves in our room for an hour. Lord knows what she thought we were doing.
I'm fortunate that they also get on like houses on fire anyway. Especially when I do or say something that I realise is just like my Mum would, since NT is not too worried about the fact that I'll turn into her one day...
