My two shopping tales from the 80s:-
- long faces at the Northern Pennine Club cottage when Imperial College Caving Club looked for their food. Two first years had been sent out with the money "to buy the basics" for the weekend and had come back with two litre bottles of Vat 69 and a green pepper.
- Kipper Jackson staggering into a Barnsley grocers, barging round in front of all the shoppers, elbowing his way to the till and departing with "Ee, there's nowt to it, this women's work!"
[Kipper was a familiar figure in the town http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/kippe...ce_after_cream_cake_thrown_at_police_1_266393 ]
Many moons ago I went into Rory O'Briens in Romford to buy some brake blocks, and came home with a Veloce equipped Cannondale CAAD2. That did not go down too well and still gets thrown in my face when I have a go about the shopping bill.
